Pamela Gaunt, artist

Pam has been a practicing artist and part-time academic for 20 years. Pam’s practice reflects a long-standing interest in the ornamental and architectural space. Over the past ten years she has attempted to create new dialogues between the two, as exemplified in the solo exhibitions New Works (1999); Floribunda (2003); the more recent Errant Abstractions (2008); and several architectural commissions.

The spatial arrangements she creates consist of patterned interventions in the gallery or building’s architecture. Gaunt is interested in the formal and semantic aspects of pattern. Many of the works she creates transform ordinary surfaces, or industrial waste, either by minimal intervention or through utilising different industrial processes. She is interested in challenging the superficial role bestowed upon embellishment or the concealing of foundations. Gaunt's work consciously privileges the material and the decorative, thereby subverting or reversing their perceived roles or marginalised position.

Pamela is represented by Galerie Düsseldorf, Perth.
