Kevin Robertson and diode, artists/musicians

Diode formed in 2001 in Perth with Kevin Robertson on drums and sequencer loops and Jenny Griffiths on vocals and keyboards to develop a fragile experimental sound. Rosie Rooney joined the band on bass/vocals in 2006 and had previously collaborated with Kevin in The Whitlam Years. The band changed shape embracing previously spurned guitar sounds, re-discovering the lsquo;sound sculpturersquo; quality found in groups such as My Bloody Valentine. Diode play a unique brand of avant-rock, blending live instruments, home-made oscillator sounds layered with simple drumming, ethereal vocals and spoken word. Diode has previously released several independent recordings including Messages (2001) and Chromedioxide (2003). Their album Diode (2007) builds on these outings adding a tighter, more developed sound. A new album is currently being recorded, exploring dissonant sonic landscapes and melodic transitions. Diode has played at the Tote bar in Melbourne as part of Octopus 7, Don’t Show Me Your Poetry and was feature in Old Skool: never lose that feeling at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts.
